It's been 8 days since my last post

Yes, I'm confessing that I slacked off a bit.  But for somewhat good reasons:

Reason #1 - I didn't have much to say.
Reason #2 - I went to beautiful western Massachussets for the most amazing outdoor wedding.  My good friend V got married to her wonderful man, C.  Their story is one of those amazing stories- they met via a missed connection on Craigslist.  Yes folks, it happens...

Reason #3 - I started the Clean Program.  I generally don't jump on celebrity fads, but this one intrigued me.  I've been doing my own cleanses seasonally for several years now, and I decided to try this one because it would be the cleanse least likely to cause a small scale family revolt.  Previously, when I cleansed, everyone pretty  much had to cleanse because I refused to cook 2 separate meals for 5 people while working and going to school.  Wasn't going to happen.  The kids are older now, and happen to be gone for another week or so, so it was the perfect time for me to try it on.

I'm on day 3 of 21.  The program is pretty straightforward, but kind of expensive.  It's not the most expensive cleanse out there, but definitely costs more than your standard Trader Joes' or Whole Foods cleanse.

In a nutshell, you have a shake for breakfast and dinner, and eat lunch plus snacks from a list of foods that are non-inflammatory and as whole as possible- no sugar, corn, wheat, fried foods, etc.  The shakes are not the SlimFast kind of shakes.  They are very fibrous, and designed to regulate insulin (sugar cravings) and to detoxify your digestive tract.

So far, I haven't keeled over, but I have been a little tired the past couple of days.  However, today, I feel more energized than I've ever felt without any caffeine (yes, you have to give up coffee). Hence I'm writing.

Breakfast - Lazy girl's shake
Vanilla Nourish Shake with Almond Milk and Maca Powder

Lunch - Salad
Mesclun, grilled chicken, carrots, black olives, sunflower seeds, broccoli with balsamic vinegar and olive oil

Snack - Fruit
Cantaloupe, pineapple ( I need to buy some nuts to add in there)

Dinner - A better shake
Chocolate Nourish Shake with Coconut Milk, frozen cherries, and almond butter

Incidentally I'm on this cleanse as I'm reading the Omnivore's Dilemma by Michael Pollan, and I feel like a bit of a sell-out.   Although, the cleanse seems to have the same concerns about corn and soy that are presented in the book.

In any case, it's really interesting to pay attention to what you eat, and although the origin of my shakes are a little dubious, I am really enjoying not worrying about what I'm going to have for dinner.
